The total import of antimony from China in 1914 was

only 42,000 pounds. But in the year 1913 it was 146,000

pounds.

During the past week notices have appeared in the

local newspapers stating that proposals are on foot to work some of the many antimony deposits in Califomis,

Hollister and Bakersfield are two of the districts

mentioned as having antimony claims.

Zinc dust to the amount of 56,000 pounds was also

imported from China in 1914.

The hides imported are probably all for the use of

the various tanning companies in California, which

employ probably 1,000 hands.

Up to the present time special attention has not

been given to the final destination of these. If, however, they were shipped by sea from San Francisco

they would also appear in the returns above mentioned.

If they are sent out by rail it is almost impossible

to trace them.
